It's the buzz word of the day, but what exactly is sustainable tourism? On Saturday, Spetember 13, former Lonely Planet editor and author Greg Benchwick will speak about how we, as travelers, can go green at Hostelling International USA, San Diego Council's Annual Meeting and Party. The party will take place at the University Christian Church in Hillcrest from 3:30 to 6:00 pm. Tickets are $20.00 for Hostelling International members and $30 for non-members. Admission price includes dinner, live and silent auctions, raffle prizes, and a meet-and-greet with the keynote speaker Greg Benchwick. Reservations are required, and early registration is highly recommended- the event is expected to fill up quickly. Prior to the party, HI-San Diego's Annual Meeting will be held at 3:00 pm. to elect the Board of Directors, honor volunteers, and highlight outstanding members of the hostelling community. The meeting portion of the event is free and open to the public until 3:30 pm. As a writer, photographer, and travel expert, Mr. Benchwick served on Lonely Planet's Sustainable Tourism committee, and has penned articles for Fodor's, Newsweek, The Washington Post, and several travel websites.
